Hate Speech V.S Freedom of Speech. | Fusion | Justin Gamache®, B.S., M.Ed.

Since the discussion of Hate Speech and Freedom of speech is an ongoing topic, we need to consider how we can still consider being free but without the use of hate?

Hate speech is speech which attacks a person or group on the basis of attributes such as race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, or gender. While Freedom of speech is the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint. So, to change this to protect some people involved. You have the right to free speech as long as it doesn’t involve attacks on a person or group such as race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, or gender. Be literally on your words, as they soon become who you are as a person.

Whether or not you believe hate speech is protected by Freedom of speech, you should be mindful of what you are saying. Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become your actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

Be wise to what you are saying, and think how would that make you feel if they were saying it to you. Regardless if you agree or disagree with me on the point of hate speech being banned, hate speech doesn’t have a value or benefit to any situation including in free speech. You’re feeling offended because I feel hate speech is wrong, you think it is right yet, you’re hurting yourself by exhibiting such hate.

Next time you feel like hating, remember you could be the one receiving it. Treat others the way you want to be treated, speak kindly, and act mature.
