Jacque Fresco was an American futurist and self-described social engineer, born March 13, 1916 and died most recently May 18, 2017, who has a simple of idea of building a resource based economy. He was self-taught throughout his life, lived 101 years, and worked in a variety of positions that were related to industrial design. His views were beyond today’s society, but was a true servant leader wanting to create a society that was based from resources. His biggest idea was the Venus project, which is meant to be a resource-based economy where everyone worked together to achieve common goals. His ideas and leadership were big that we would one day have a society that would be able to live longer, healthier and more meaningful to more past the ideas of politics, poverty, and war. He had a big heart and dream, and was counted out as being different most of his life because of this idea and dream. According to Fresco (2015), “the future doesn’t depend on our present-day beliefs or social customs, but will continue to evolve a set of values unique to its own time” (para. 10), and that is what he has always taught. His teaching delivered his journey of a dream, and a dream that would be fulfilled by changing the way we think, act, perform our duties, and live our lives.
Why did you choose this person?
I chose Jacque Fresco to build a servant leadership profile on because his ideas and dreams are closer to mine, and are more so towards a world of physical freedom that humanity can be stronger if we all worked together. I have long to believe that if we are ever to survive, we must be able to look past our differences to combined our strengths, and grow with passion towards leading with charitable acts to build and grow a future of divine purpose. Although I wish I had a chance to meet Jacque in person, just reading about him over social media and watching videos on his plans to build a resource-based economy known as the Venus project, his dreams align with my own and his positivity and patience for the Venus project is something I would like to see in the future.
Rationale decision for this choice
The reason for this choice is because his ideas, dreams, and heart align with my own. I believe, according to my words, that in a world of diverse cultures there comes the greatest things in life. Our world is full of diversity and that is the best part about how we can grow in a resource-based economy. Diversity is what makes us who we are, our cultures are what can drive us together, and our expressions to live a stronger and better life is what will make us stronger. If it is not the idea of Jacques leadership he has had towards my own life, it is the heart and dreams where we can physically move past a financial system, politics, poverty, and war. There is no sense of waging war on each other, when we are all the same by heart.
How does Jacque Fresco Embody the ten characteristics of Servant Leadership?
According to Spears as documented by Northouse “there are 10 major characteristics of servant leadership: Listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of people, and building a community” (Northouse, 2012). Jacque embodies the ten characteristics of servant leadership through listening to the problems of today, and trying to create a result that would improve our lives without war, politicians, and poverty. His idea and dream for a resource-based economy is the real thing, and based out of Venus, Florida. His empathy towards helping humanity survive in the future, and growing together delivers and frees us from the problems of today. He wants humanity to heal together because our unity is our strengths not our weaknesses. He has an awareness that direction we are going in today will just lead us in more pain, suffering, and problems. Jacque has the power of persuasion, and people love him for his dreams with the Venus project where everyone can come in unity to be better beings for a healthier and stronger life, and has conceptualized into a physical idea of how we should live. His foresight to predict what we need in the future is through his idea and dream through the Venus project, which will work towards a world of holistic social and economic systems in which the planets resources are held as a common heritage of all the people on earth. His stewardship is his heart for wanting to take care of humanity, and builds a commitment to the growth of all the people and building of a community known as the Venus project.
While many people might night want to have a resource-based economy, or an economy where all the people can finally come together to achieve common, but the idea is simple and worth the try to solve our problems of today. There is no sense of waging war on each other, when we are all the same by heart and truth be told Jacques Fresco servant leadership is the true answer of solving all our problems so we can live a better life tomorrow.
